Hops & Grain to Host Brewery Backyard Party wt Live Oak

So this Saturday afternoon the east-side brewers will be hanging out in the Hops & Grain parking lot (eastest 6th), eating some brats and hot dogs, and debuting their joint collaboration, Schalger- a “wonderfully premium lager”.

It’s Saturday, Sept 15 from noon till ???. $5 at the door and space is limited, they say.

Sounds like a great way to kick off the fall beer season.

More about that Schlager:

We brewed this beer with our good friends and neighbors over at Live Oak Brewing a couple of weeks back.  We drank a twelve pack of Schlitz and enjoyed some lovely fried chicken, prepared fresh daily in east Austin.  I’m not actually sure about the “fresh” part but it is indeed made daily.  What is this beer that we brewed together?  It’s a new take on an old classic.  I know, “how many times have I heard that before?”  Seriously though, we took the inspiration that no doubt led the Schlitz brewery to create this wonderfully premium American lager and we added an east Austin flair to it.  And let me tell you, brewing an adjunct lager with a 3 step infusion mash schedule and 20% flaked corn is no easy feat.  Honestly, there were a few times during our vorlauf that I didn’t think we were gonna make it.  Maybe it was the fried chicken going to my brain, or maybe the Schlitz? Who knows?  But what has come of that experience is truly epic in our eyes. And I’m not using the word epic in that “this SXSW day show is going to be EPIC” I’m talking about it as an experience that sticks around in your mind, manifesting itself periodically over a few pints of beer in that old recollective manner that ends something like “man, that day we brewed the Schlager was freakin epic man”.  Yeah, that kind of epic.  The specs on the beer you ask?  Here you go;  A base of the finest floor malted Bohemian Pilsner in the land complete with just a touch of Munich and a hefty dose of flaked corn.  Hopped with the noblest of noble hops for a subtle bitterness and a spicy hop finish.  It’s clean. It’s easy.  It’s uber-drinkable, nay, uber-sessionable.  And rather than sell any of this beer around town we are going to have a party at the brewery.  All of our favorite friends from Live Oak will be there and hopefully we’ll have a few others join us for this EPIC tapping.  We’ve got 2.5 bbls of this beer that needs to be drank because it is in no way suitable for cellaring.
