We end with a proper discussion about the differences and similarities between the ATX brewers and their northern brethren that was insightful and inspiring.

So thanks so much to Tony and all the North Texas breweries that provided beers for this session.

We kick this first episode off talking shop and such about the latest guide. We briefly discuss the Spring 2013 content (new bars, DFW Guide, season drinking, beer and loathing… you get the idea), I tell a funny/incriminating story about duck egging (see Egg Dogging), and then we dive into the myriad of ventures our guest Mr. Tony Drewry has his hands in. Quick and dirty details: Austin Beer Guide will unveil its latest (and thickest) issue and fun festivities will ensue! “Iron Brewer” Brew-off: The Pinthouse Pizza Team is engaging in a friendly competition against the Austin Beer Guide Team, to see who can design the better Pale Ale recipe. Each team designed a recipe and had Pinthouse brew up each 10 gallon batch. #IronBrew - Blind Taste Test: There will be a blind taste test to determine which is the ultimate winner and which one “pales” in comparison. - Buy the ABG glass and get samples of each brew, then cast yr vote. After that purchase as much of your favorite until they’re gone. Special beers from Jester King (Salt Lick Collaboration), Austin Beerworks (TBD, but it will be good), and Hops & Grain (TBD and tasty we’re sure). Buy any of these and keep the ABG glass. The kitchen will be armed and ready with those tasty new pizza rolls. New outdoor picnic tables! Facebook RSVP. See you there!

OK. We’re on the third/last podcast wt Hops & Grain. We get into the nuts and bolts behind the brew biscuits. Their yummy and we catch Bryan Gutmann tasting his first one on tape! Yeah. It’s good listening. Bryan and Josh Hare then really get into the brew biscuits. This is pretty much a brew biscuit episode. But you know what? That’s fine. It’s great listening and Bryan is more enthusiastic about this subject than anything we’ve ever podcasted about. Bryan then flexes his interview muscles to segue Josh into a solid H&G history starter kit. Yeah. It’s impressive how he does that. I thought I knew me some H&G history, but I learned a thing or two in this session. Also, lots of details on the big Hops & Grain copper heist of 2011. It’s a good story. Oceans 11 shit. Big thanks to Gutmann for carrying the load on this one. Follow him on Twitter to catch his latest shows. Enjoy! Direct link to the mp3 HERE SUBSCRIBE IN iTUNES!
2013 Spring guide is printing as I type and the release party is in the works.

March 21 is the date we will release this goodness on the world and it will happen at Pinthouse Pizza.

Several cogs are in motion as well as irons in the fire, but the quick and dirty details are these:

We’ll update the beer lineup and other details as we get closer to the date, but be sure to mark your calendars now.

Personally, I have not been as excited about a new guide since summer 2012. This one will reveal some new changes and we’ve got some very nice features and interviews. I can’t wait for it, and I hope you feel the same.

Cheers!

Bills filed. Check out Ronnie’s Houston Chron post for more than a cut/paste job. Austin, Texas– In an effort to promote economic development by supporting small business, Texas State Senator Kevin Eltife (R-Tyler) filed a package of legislation today that seeks to level the playing field for Texas’ growing craft brewing industry. Together, Senate Bills 515, 516, 517, & 518. will modernize laws that unfairly advantage out-of-state beer producers over Texas’ small businesses of the beer industry – craft brewers. “Government shouldn’t be involved in picking winners and losers in the private sector. Texans believe consumers make the best choices about products in the free market,” said Senator Eltife. “These four bills level the playing field for the small business segment of the Texas brewery industry.” … “Legislators should encourage entrepreneurial spirit by creating a climate for small business development opportunities that leads to capital investment and job creation in our state,” added Senator Eltife. “This legislation will provide the proper regulatory framework for these businesses to operate and grow.” The legislation will authorize craft brewers who brew beer as a production brewer to sell limited amounts of beer to customers at their breweries.

“These four bills level the playing field for the small business segment of the Texas brewery industry.”
“Legislators should encourage entrepreneurial spirit by creating a climate for small business development opportunities that leads to capital investment and job creation in our state,” added Senator Eltife. “This legislation will provide the proper regulatory framework for these businesses to operate and grow.”
The legislation will authorize craft brewers who brew beer as a production brewer to sell limited amounts of beer to customers at their breweries. It will also allow craft brewers who brew beer as a brew pub to sell a limited amount of their beer to wholesalers for distribution to grocery stores and licensed alcohol retailers. Finally, the legislation will adjust the amount of beer a craft brewer may sell directly to retailers.
